Have Spiritual Conversations With Your Kids

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. – Deuteronomy 6:6-7, ESV

Parents are the first and most important person to disciple a child and possibly the most difficult.  As a parent, you have a tremendous responsibility to teach your children the things of God.

Parents are First to Disciple Their Kids

Assuming you are a believer, you are the first to disciple your children because you are the first person they will encounter who knows, loves, and follows Christ.  You are the one they will begin to learn from whether you intend on teaching them or not.  They will learn about God by the way trust, speak about, and worship God.  Your children are always learning from you.

Parents are the Most Important People to Disciple Their Kids

As a parent, you are the most important person to disciple your children.  They will spend more time with you than with anyone else, especially early on in their lifetime.  You have the ability to make a strong influence for their faith development as you intentionally disciple your children.

Parents are Possibly the Most Difficult People to Disciple Their Kids

Your children will see you at your best of times and at your worst of times.  They will see the day to day lifestyle you lead.  If your actions don’t match up to you words, your children will notice.  This means you must practice what you preach to your children.  When you mess up, let them see you repent and ask for forgiveness.  Your model of how to be a disciple is probably stronger than your instruction of how to be a disciple.

We just released our first storybook that will help you have spiritual conversations with your kids. Help your little one discover God’s love and redemption with Broken.  Get the paperback at Amazon.

You’ve got this!  You can disciple your children well.  Trust the work to God, live life intentionally with your children, and use Scripture to talk about spiritual things.  We use the International Children’s Bible in our storybooks because of the simple clarity it brings to the Word of God.  Let us know if we can pray for you, prayer@discipleshipstudio.com.
